As launch day approaches for both the PS4 and Xbox One. Many toxic fans on both sides of the aisle have went into battle day in and day out to praise their machine of choice, while degrading the competition as often as possible. The console wars are in full swing. But between the arguments about 1080P, the cloud, past policy reversals and so on. Can a winner now finally be declared? Can you write everything down on paper and walk away and say, this is the better console for all gamers?

The resolution shot heard around the world was fired earlier this week when it was announced that Call of Duty Ghosts would be running at 1080P native, and the Xbox One will be upscaled from 720P to 1080p. Sony fans in particular were pleased, and it didn’t take long before Sony was joining in on the celebration.

Shortly after it was confirmed that the Playstation 4 was running at a higher resolution, Sony Germany sent out a photo on twitter and facebook that has caused a bit of a controversy. The picture as you can see below is simply a artwork image for CoD Ghosts that has been photoshopped to add the text “60 FPS / 1080P” and the hashtag “#4ThePlayers”.

After posting the image, Sony tried to backtrack and attempted to remove the image from both their facebook and twitter page. Of course, we all know that once something is on the internet – it is there forever. So even though the images are now pulled, there is plenty of tracks that lead back to where it originated.

But my question is, why delete it? Sony should be proud of the fact that their machine is outperforming the competition when it comes to native resolution. They simply posted an image that had accurate facts on the picture. I don’t think the scandal was the image itself being posted, but rather the attempted removal and cover-up.

We are only a few hours away from Microsoft revealing the Next Generation Xbox. In this commentary, I run down the list of items that we can expect to see at the May 21st Xbox reveal, and a few things you can expect to NOT see during the show. Here are a few of the topics that are worth mentioning.

Xbox Name: What will the next Xbox be called? Just Xbox? Xbox Infinity / Xbox Fusion / Xbox 720 – It will be nice to finally know for sure what we will need to ask for at the game store.

Kinect 2.0 – The voice / motion controlling peripheral has sold a ton of units, but failed to grab the attention of the hardcore gamers. The next xbox is expected to include a Kinect with every unit sold, and the next gen Kinect is said to have a lot better resolution and tracking capability. Will Kinect 2.0 pick up the hardcore gaming crowd that 1.0 left behind?

TV & Entertainment Apps – It’s no secret that Microsoft isn’t just trying to sell you a ‘gaming machine’. They want the Xbox to be a major player in all of your entertainment needs – including TV, Music, Movies, Ordering Pizza and so forth. Expect Xbox to showcase the next gen dashboard and apps that will fulfil your entertainment needs.

Games: While we most certainly will see a few games during the #XboxReveal, don’t expect the reveal to focus on games. Microsoft has stated that the reveal is going to be a 2 part process. May 21st will be about the System and capabilities of the system, while E3 2013 will focus on the games for Xbox.

I end up covering a few more topics in the commentary, so I hope you enjoy it – and i’ll be back with a roundup of the information once the Next Gen Xbox is finally revealed!

Microsoft is killing off its Xbox Points system in favor of a new gift card system that will be similar to iTunes cards. Cost will now be based on local currency. Players will also have the option of using their credit or debit cards with the new system. Microsoft is set to unveil the new system between now and E3 2013. Everything will be in place for the transition to the Next Gen Xbox which will be unveiled on May 21st.

While this news may be good for your sanity, it may also mean new games will come to the Xbox from developers who have avoided publishing games due to the point system being based on the weak US Dollar.
