This morning, Sony Brazil announced that the PS4 will be 3,999 Brazilian Reals. That translates into $1,850 US dollars. For comparison, the Xbox One is R$ 2,200 or $1,016 US dollars. So why does the PS4 cost so much more in Brazil? Sony explained that between 60 to 70 percent of the cost was made up from import fees and taxes. Brazil does have notoriously high taxes on certain imports, but it still doesn’t exactly answer the question as to why the Xbox One is almost half the price of the PS4. Not unless Microsoft didn’t have to pay the same fees may be due to production factories in Brazil. That currently is the $1,850 question.

But what options do Brazilians have when it comes to buying the PS4?

Since both consoles are region free, buying online may be one option that will cut down the price tag. But if you are the more adventurous type, and maybe in need of a good vacation. Then it may be time to start planning a trip.

There are some who see video games as a terrible evil that causes violence and a form of media that should be banned or taxed. Even though numerous studies have shown no link between videogames and violence, people still love pulling out their pitchforks when it comes to games.

Why should violence only be attributed to video games however? Why not other forms of games?

In Brazil Soccer this week, a referee and a player were in a fight that resulted in the referee stabbing the soccer player to death on the field. The crowd then flowed onto the field and decapitated the referee and tore his limbs apart before placing his head on a stake in the middle of the field.

And these types of stories happen a lot more regularly than you would image. Do a quick google search for Soccer Violence and you will see a number of articles coming up.

Of course Soccer isn’t the only ‘game’ that these acts of violence happen. And I don’t want to ban soccer or any other sport. But I do find it strange that you can have sports with real bloodshed on a regular basis, and no one has a problem with that. But if you spill virtual blood – now your someone who should be watched and monitored because you could be violent.
